For sale we have a beautiful and well sized 1922 9ct rose gold cushion case watch, with Arthur George Rendells import mark. It has a 32mm x 32mm case, which is a good size for the period. The rose gold tone is beautiful, luxurious and even. It has a white enamel dial with black arabic numerals and a sub-second dial. It has an unusual and sweet blue 12. To the right is the original rose gold tone onion style crown. It has gold wire lugs which are good and strong. It has a hinged front and rear. To the rear the case is clean and inside it has British hallmarking. The movement is a 15 jewel Swiss lever movement, with a good level of finishing, which has been recently serviced. It is presented on a stitched leather strap, with the original 9ct rose gold buckle. A very good example of a 102 year old watch.

The dial is a bright white enamel. It has stylised Arabic numerals which are clear. It has a blue 12 which is rather unusual for the period. If coloured, they tended to be red. There is a railroad minute track around the exterior. The sub-second dial is inset and has a railroad track, with 1 second marks, 5 second dashes and 10 second arabic markers.

The handset is original of plume style, with thermally blued finish. The sub-second hand is also original with thermally blued finish and lollipop counterbalance.

The case is in very good overall condition considering its age. It is a reasonably large cushion case, measuring 32mm x 32mm. It is a case that has a hinged front cover and hinged back. It has a flat cushion bezel, with a bevelled edge to meet the flat case sides. It has gold wire lugs to the centre piece of the case at the top and bottom, which the strap is stitched to. To the right is the beautiful, original onion style crown. The rear follows the front of the case with a flat face and bevelled edge. It is beautifully symmetrical. Inside, it has hallmarking from London assay office for 9t gold, with the ‘g’ date letter, putting it at 1922. It has the case makers mark for watch importer Arthur George Rendell, who was based in Clerkenwell Road, London.

The movement is a 15-jewel manual wind movement by A.Schild. It has a frequency of 18,000 BPH. It has a good level of finishing with perlage to the top and bottom of the bridges, which is rather eyecatching. The watch has been recently serviced. Its an old movement so should not be held to the same standard as a modern movement. It’s keeping time to within +120 seconds deviation a day.

The strap is vintage and has been stitched on to the watch. It has the original buckle which is hallmarked 9ct gold by Chester assay office. It also dates to 1922. It has the makers mark for Charles Peach, of Augusta Street, Birmingham.

Overall, this is a very pleasing watch with its large rose gold case. With a bright white dial and blue 12, onion style crown and well designed and finished movement, this is a lovely watch from the era. Add in a vintage stitched strap and the original buckle, this is a great example.
