For sale we have an exceptional and rare piece of Art Deco horological design from 1930.
This is a beautifully designed 18ct white gold ladies Jump Hour “digital” wristwatch. It was imported by Dreyfus (Rotary) and has a Pesuex 90 manual wind movement inside. The display of the time, combined with the white gold case and thin sizing makes this a rare watch.
The time is displayed with two apertures, hours on the top and minutes to the bottom.
The disks are white base with black painted Arabic numerals, 12 for the hours, with the minutes in graduations of 5 with dot markers for each singular minute. The zero is red due to this being the point when the hour jumps.
The 18ct white gold case is designed in a manner that resembles a gold ingot. It measures 26mm x 11.25mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 36.5mm.
The top of the case is flat, with double facetted edges to the sides that catch the light playfully. There is also a double facetted finish to the top and bottom of the case as it falls into the looped lugs. The top and bottom of the case are adorned with black enamel work to complement the case design and book end and otherwise bright case. The crown is original and appears to be white gold. It has very neat and fine coin edge finish.
The case back is hinged to the bottom and has clear British hallmarking from Glasgow assay office, dating it to 1930. It has the makers mark for Sylvain Dreyfus, of Rotary watch company.
The watch is presented on a cord strap with 9ct white gold clasp.
The movement is a great quality Peseux 90. It is a manual wind movement, with 16 jewels. It differs from the standard calibre, with the modification to have hour and minute disc. The movement has been recently serviced by us. It has a daily gain of +50 seconds.
