Here we have a classic Art Deco period Tissot Antimagnetique watch, dating to 1935. It has the curved rectangular case design which is full stainless steel. To the side is the large, flat crown which is original. It has the rectangular silver sector dial with the two-tone finish. It has the arrow hour markers and Arabic 9, 12, 3 and cut off 6. The thermally blued hands indicate the time. To the rear it is signed ‘Antimagnetique’. Inside the case is signed as ‘Staybrite’ with the serial number. Inside is the manual wind Tissot calibre 20 movement, which has been recently serviced.
The dial is a classic Art Deco design. It has the sector dial design with the two-tone finishing. The outer section has the matte finish with the satin tone to the inner sector. To the outside is the rectangular railroad track for the minutes. The hour markers are of elongated arrow design with the balanced Arabic 9,12,3, design with cut off 6. The Sub-second register is inset in the rectangular shape. It has the mirror design with the railroad track and arrow markers for the 5 second graduations. It is signed ‘Tissot’ with the long T logo below 12.
The hour hand is original, of Plume style with the minute hand a replacement of leaf style. They are both thermally blued and shine brightly in the light.
The full Stainless Steel case is well proportioned, measuring 22mm wide, with a case length of 32.5mm. The lug-to-lug length adds significant presence, taking the total length to 40mm. This, paired with the 18mm lug width makes the watch wear very well on the wrist. With the curvature of the case and the depth of just below 10mm, it is a comfortable wear.
It has the flat, polished top and bottom to the bezel, with the bevelled edge to the top of the case. The lugs are straight with the gentle angle to the tip. The sides are flat with the brushed finish, with the visible curvature from the side profile. To the right is the original crown which is large, but flat, fitting with the neat profile of the case design. The rear snaps on and is curved to match the wrist. It has the flat face with bevelled outer faces. It is clearly engraved with the ‘Antimagnetique’ marking.
The inside of the case back has the ‘Staybrite’ steel signing, with the serial number ‘602213’ which dates the case to 1935. It has the neat perlage finishing.
The movement is a Tissot calibre 20 which is a tonneau shaped manual wind calibre. It has a jewel count of 15 and is a good quality movement. The serial number dates it to 1933.
The movement has been recently serviced. It’s keeping time to within +/- 20 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 270 degrees and a beat error of 1.6m/s.
