Here we have a good original example of a 1939 Tissot Antimagnetique. It is the reference 6072/4 6076. It has a beautiful black bullseye dial and white painted syringe style hands with radium in-fill and radium Arabic numerals. It has a 31mm steel Calatrava style case with the signed screw back and a chunky original crown. Inside is the manual wind Tissot calibre 27 movement which is recently serviced, keeping accurate time. It is presented on a period Bonklip bracelet.

The dial is the standout aspect of this example. It is a rarer black and dark grey dial variation. It is a clean design which has developed a lovely even speckled patination. The white signing has also developed a champagne tone with age, demonstrating a slight tropicalised ageing. The outer track is black, with white railroad minute track. The inner sector has a dark grey tone, with the clear white base Arabic numerals having radium luminous paint. The dial is neatly signed with the Tissot long T logo below 12 and ‘Antimagnetique’. The sub-second dial is inset at 6 O’clock with 10 second Arabic markers and individual seconds graduations.

The hands are white painted which shares the natural ageing to an off-white tone. The radium luminous paint is original also having an aged tone. The sub-second hand is a lovely Lance design and is original.

The Steel case is neatly proportioned, measuring 31mm x 31mm. Its lug-to-lug measurement of 38mm adds presence on the wrist, wearing larger than its strict lug design. With the watch on a Bonklip bracelet from the period, it also provides a more integrated styling which adds overall appearance.

The case is of Calatrava style, with the raised notch holding the crystal, before swooping downwards to a more traditional broad face with flat edge. The lugs are tapered inwards and downwards with a neat curve to hug the wrist. They have the polished finish to the top, with the sides of the case being brushed. The drilled lugs are a bonus for easy strap change. To the right is the original chunky crown with coin edge finish.

The screwback to the rear is stainless steel and has 6 notches. It has an aesthetic sectored engraving layout with the Tissot logo to the base. It proudly lists the properties ‘Non-Magnetic Waterproof Shock Absorber’. Inside it is signed with the Tissot logo and the reference 6072/4 6076.

Inside is the manual wind Tissot calibre 27-3. It is a 15-jewel manual wind calibre with shockproofing. It has a beat rate of 18,000 BPH and a 43-hour power reserve. It has been recently serviced and keeps time to within -30 seconds a day.

Overall, this is a very good original example, which would make an excellent addition to any collection. A true tool watch, with shockproofing, this can still be a sturdy companion.
