Here we have a nice example of a 1940s Huguenin tool watch. It has a well-proportioned 35mm, full stainless steel case with a twisted lug design. It is original and unpolished with the original polished finish to the bezel and brushed finish to the sides. It has the dark grey satin finish dial which has developed an even light speckled patination. It has the alternating dash and Arabic hour markers with the aged radium luminous paint. The sub-second dial is inset into the dial with the grained concentric circles having the sunburst finish. The syringe style hands are a silver tone with the aged radium luminous in-fill. It has the Sei Tacche notched case back with the grained concentric circles. Inside is the shockproof manual wind AS1130 movement, which has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time.
The dial is the centrepiece of this classic 1940s tool watch. It is an uncommon dark grey tone, which has developed the most fascinating light speckled patination. The spread is quite even across the dial which makes it standout. This dovetails nicely with the aged radium luminous paint on the hour markers, which has developed a darker yellow tone with age. It is a simple and considered layout with the minute dashes to the exterior of the dial in a white tone. The dial is simply signed ‘Huguenin’ below 12 O’clock, with the inset sub-second dial at 6 O’clock. The hour markers are alternating dashes and Arabic numerals which creates a balanced layout. The sub-second track has the grained concentric circles which have a sunburst finish in the light. It has the 10 second Arabic graduations with 5 second dashes and single second dashes. The handset is original and is of syringe style with the aged radium luminous in-fill, whilst the sub-second hand has a neat lollipop counterbalance.
The case is larger than average case size for the era, measuring 35mm x 35mm. It has a width with crown of 37.75mm and a lug-to-lug length of 42.5mm which both help to enhance the presence on the wrist. It is a quality, full stainless steel case. It has the circular central section with the polished bezel surrounding the dial. The lugs are of a twisted design which is a neat touch that helps the watch to standout. The sides of the case are flat with the light brushed finish. To the right is the domed crown which is easy to wind. The case back screws into place and has the Sei Tacche design with the slots for opening. It has the brushed concentric circles radiating from the centre of the case.
Inside is the AS 1130 movement which is a robust manual wind movement, which benefits from shock protection. It has been recently serviced and is keeping time to within -15 seconds a day.
