For sale we have a circa 1945 Tudor Oyster Shock resisting, with red central second hand, which is the reference 4463. It has a stainless steel 34mm Oyster case, with classic coin edge screw on back. It also has the screw down crown, which is original with the “Oyster Patent” signing. It has a silver satin dial, with speckled patination. It has clear black signing with Arabic numerals, Tudor small rose logo and outer 1/5th second scale. To the rear the serial number is still visible. Inside the Tudor calibre 59 SC movement has been recently serviced and is keeping excellent time.
The silver satin dial is original. It has the Tudor “small rose” logo below 12. The Tudor signing has a beautiful, stylised font. The “Oyster” and “shock resisting” signing is also in a clear and clean stylised font. It has clear black arabic hour markers, with 1/5th second graduations around the exterior. It is signed “Swiss Made” to the base. It has a speckled patination and some scratching associated with ageing.
The 34mm case wears well, with the width with crown of 37mm adding presence. It has a lug-to-lug width of 42mm, which also makes it wear larger than its strict 34mm width.
It is Stainless Steel, with the original Oyster patent screw down crown. It has a polished bevelled bezel, with a brushed finish to the top of the lugs. The sides are rather flat on this early reference, with the classic polished finish. To the rear, the underside of the lugs have the correct brushed finish. The screw back has a sharp coin edge finish, with a brushed outer section and polished face. The serial number is still visible. Inside, it is signed “Oyster Watch Co” with the reference 4463.
The Tudor calibre 59 SC has been recently serviced and is keeping time to within -10 seconds a day. It is manual wind, with sweep centre second and a jewel count of 17. It has a frequency of 18,000 BPH and a 40-hour power reserve. It also benefits from shock protection as proudly stated on the dial! It has the original movement spacer and case clamps holding it in place.
An early Tudor reference, it is a classic tool watch in its design with its clear hour markers, red central second hand and 1/5th second graduations to the outer track. It has an appealing Tudor Small Rose signing, with the beautiful 34mm Steel Oyster case. With its recently serviced movement, this is a reliable vintage watch with some beautiful design touches, for a fraction of a price of a Rolex from the same era.

Dial:
The dial is original and is in fair condition for the age. It is a silver tone and has a light speckled patina. It has some scratches around and below 12 O’clock. The signing is good and clear. There is some corrosion to the top right quarter of the dial to the edge, which is reflected in the chapter ring.
Hands:
The hands are original. The hour and minute hands are thermally blued. There is some wear to the finish on the edges and near the tip. The red second hand is original to the watch. It may have been damaged, shortening it from the edge of the dial.
Glass:
The acrylic crystal is original and is in good condition, with some light marks, having been polished.
Crown:
The crown is original and is in good condition with neat coin edge finish. It has some light surface scratching. It screws down securely. It has wear to the thread meaning it only turns once.
Case:
The case is Stainless Steel and is in fair condition for the age. It has a polished finish with light surface scratching associated with ageing. The drilled lugs are good and without wear. It has the correct brushed finish to the top of the lugs, with polished sides.
Caseback:
The case back is formed of steel and is in fair condition for the age. It is a classic coin coin edge screw back. It has light surface scratching consistent with age, and some deeper scuffs to the edges from poor opening. It has a dimpled dent to the right of the serial number.
Strap:
The watch comes on a new genuine leather strap.
Movement:
The movement is a Tudor calibre 59 SC, which is an FHF 30-1 base calibre. It is manual wind, with sweep centre second and a jewel count of 17. It has a frequency of 18,000 BPH and a 40-hour power reserve. It also benefits from shock protection.
The movement has been recently serviced. It’s keeping time to -10 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 310 degrees and a beat error of 0.1 m/s.
