For sale we have a 1948 Record Watch Co rectangular watch. It is a tank style case, formed of 9ct rose gold which is a pleasing tone. It measures 22.5mm x 30.5mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 38.5mm. It has a silver dial with a silver foil boarder which shines in the light. It has the Record Swan logo to the dial. The case is british hallmarked for 9ct gold, dating to 1948/49. Inside is a tonneau shaped manual wind Record cal 111 movement. It is keeping time to within -30 seconds a day.

 

The dial is original and has ageing. It is a silver satin base tone, with an outer railroad track which follows the rectangular shape of the case. Inside of this is a silver foil boarder which shines in the light and catches the eye. It has simple Arabic numerals in a neat Bauhaus style font. The Record logo with swan neatly designed is to the centre with the Record name below. There is a rectangular sub-second dial which neatly balances the dial. The thermally blued hands are original and shine brightly in the light. The dial is protected by the original acrylic crystal which has bevelled edges to reflect the light.

 

The case is a beautiful tone of 9ct rose gold, with a real red or copper tone shining. It is a well-proportioned case with a slim depth and tapered lugs, which allow it to sit comfortably on the wrist. It has subtle bevels on the case which catch the light and make the case more eye catching. It has a hinged case back which has personal initials inscribed. Inside it has British hallmarking for 9ct gold at London assay office dating to 1948/49. It has the LA makers mark for Louis Arnould of City Watch Case Company.

 

Inside is a Record calibre 111. It is a manual wind tonneau shaped calibre with a jewel count of 15. It is a quality in-house movement. It keeps time to within -30 seconds a day.

 

We have sold many Record watches and Record tank models across the years. This example is more unusual and standout with its rose gold tone. The dial has the silver foil boarder too. A classy and considered watch with an in-house movement. An ideal dress watch in any collection.

Dial:

The dial is in average condition for the age and is original. It has some marking, with wear around the outside where the dial meets the case.

 

Hands:

The hands are original and are thermally blued. They are in good condition with no bending or corrosion. The thermally blued tone is bright.

 

Glass:

The acrylic crystal is original and is in good condition with no noticeable marks.

 

Crown:

The crown is original but the rose gold plate has worn through. It functions as it should.

 

Case:

The case is formed of 9ct rose gold and is in average condition with surface scratching. It has a polished finish with a good shine to the front and sides. There are some dimpled dents to the sides and the front of the case. The case has naturally polished more with age and wear.

 

Caseback:

The hinged case back is formed of 9ct rose gold. The hinge is good, and the case closes well. It is in good condition with a polished finish and light surface scratching associated with ageing. It has marking to the surface associated with wear against the wrist. It has a personal initial engraving.

 

Strap:

The watch comes on new brown genuine leather strap for fixed lugs.

 

Movement:

The movement is a Record calibre 111. It is a manual wind tonneau shaped calibre with a jewel count of 15.

 

The service history is unknown but the movement is in good condition functionally and cosmetically. It keeps time to within -30 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 255 and a beat error of 2.6 m/s.
