For sale we have a good example of a 1950 Heuer Triple date calendar Reference 1806, in Stainless Steel. The dial is a champagne tone with beautiful, applied gold tone hour markers with diamond shapes, batons and Arabic 12. It has neat day and month windows set centrally on the dial. It has an unusual star on the sub-second dial. Around the exterior is the date track with date pointing hand. The neat Lance Alpha hands are a gold tone, matching the hour markers. The circular case is neat in diameter, measuring 34mm x 34mm. It has a polished finish, with tapered lugs and a notched bezel holding the crystal. To the side are the calendar pushers with the crown in-between. The case back screws in place and has stylish Heuer engraving. Inside is the Heuer signed AS 1315 bumper automatic movement which has been recently serviced.

 

The watch comes with its rare original box, original steel Heuer buckle and an original advertisement.

 

In 1950 the Heuer triple date calendar came out to celebrate Heuers 90th anniversary, marketed as the “Half of a Millennium” watch. The watch also spanned into 1951 being triumphed as one of the Mid-Century models. It was available in chrome (Ref 1815-14), steel (Ref 1806) and gold filled (Ref 1816-18).

 

Whilst Heuer are most well known in this period for their sports watches and Chronographs, which are famous for their automotive racing and Aviation application, model such as this slip under the radar.

 

It is an elegant and charming, yet simplistic timepiece. Understated mid-century design, with a series of neat design touches that assure you of the quality on your wrist. The choice of the triple date calendar function is synonymous with the mid-century period and creates an intriguing timepiece from Heuer, standing out from their norm.

Dial:

The champagne tone dial is good, with some patination and is original. There is some speckled, lighter ageing to the dial. The signing is clear with the date track around the outside and minute track. The gold tone applied hour markers are good with little corrosion. The Heuer Automatic Self-winding signing is clear, as is the star on the sub-second dial. The sub-second dal is inset with circular grained finish. The dial is signed Switzerland to the bottom.

 

Hands:

The Lance Alpha hour and minute hand are original, in gold tone with corrosion to the finish. The white painted date pointer hand with blue tip is original and has corrosion marking.

 

Glass:

The acrylic crystal is original and has light scratches, having been polished.

 

Crown and pushers:

The Stainless crown is a well-matched replacement. The pusher surrounds and pushers are chrome plated, which has worn with age and appears as brass.

 

Case:

The case is formed of Stainless Steel and is in decent original condition. It has the original polished finish and has not been refinished. The case maintains its original shapes and lines, with notched bezel, sharp edges, tips of lugs and bevel on the side of the case. The original serial is clear between the lugs. The drilled lug holes are good with little wear. It has light surface scratching consistent with age and some nicks.

 

Caseback:

The screw case back is Stainless Steel and is in very good for the age. It has light surface scratching. It has the original circular brushed finish. The Heuer signing is very clear.

 

Strap:

The watch comes on a Hirsch Black leather strap, with a Heuer Stainless Steel buckle.

 

Movement:

The movement is an AS 1315 bumper automatic. It has a sub-second hand, shock protection, 17 jewels and a power reserve of 33 hours.

It has day indicator, month indicator and date pointing hand. The date hand is set by the pusher at 4 O’clock. The month is set by the pusher at 2 O’clock. The day is set by cycling the hands past 24 hours.

 

The movement is in good condition and is working well, having been serviced by ourselves. It is keeping time to -26 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 290 degrees and a beat error of 0.2 m/s.
