For sale we have an excellent early 1950s Arsa (Auguste Reymond SA) Bumper Automatic watch. This is a hybrid watch, capable of being worn for sports or dress purposes. A jack of all trades, which is of course more suitable as a dress watch due to its age and dial tone. It has an eye-catching salmon sector dial with lumed Arabic numerals and a neat 33mm full Stainless Steel case with well-designed lugs. The screwback case is good, with an A.Reymond LTD shock protected bumper automatic movement.
It is a good quality Stainless Steel case with a 33mm case width. This seems on the small side, but with the chunky crown it is 35.5mm wide and the lug-to-lug measurement is 40.5mm. The style of the lugs is also very unusual with a facetted shadowed horn lug design. This further adds to the presence of the watch on the wrist. To the rear is a clean screwback, with the serial number 63893, boasting its waterproof, shock proof and anti-magnetic properties.
The salmon dial is exceptional, in very clean condition. It has a Salmon tone with a very subtle brushing within the satin shine. There is a clear minute/second track around the exterior, graduated to 1/5s of a second. Inside is a beautiful cream tone ring with Arabic 10 second graduations. Inside are the Arabic numerals with original radium lume in-fill which has aged to a dark tone. The dial is simply signed ARSA Type Mer Du Nord.
Inside is the in-house A.Reymond movement which is an early bumper automatic. It has a jewel count of 17, with a frequency of 18,000 BPH and Incaboc shock protection. It has been recently serviced by ourselves and is keeping time to within 20 seconds a day.
