1950s Benrus black dial dress watch, pat 2302340, manual wind serviced, US maker.
 
The Art Deco period exerted it's influence long beyond the 1930s and found its way into watch design in the 1950s with a revival in the US. Subsequently many US brands continued to produce indulgent looking wrist watches, with some element from the Art Deco period.
 
This particular Benrus watch combines this beautiful design, with the advances in watchmaking in the 1950s. The watch case is beautifully designed with tear drop lugs. These lugs also help the watch to wear larger than its 32mm diameter, with a large lug to lug measurement of 41mm.
 
The dial contrasts the gold filled case with its glossy black finish. The hour markers continue this theme with the arrow markers matching the case nicely. The hands are also gold tone along with the minute track. The movement is a good grade of Swiss produced movement for Benrus, featuring shock protection and a central second hand.
 
Overall this is a classy little watch which is suitable for everyday wear, as well as under the sleeve of a crisp shirt on an evening. A recently serviced movement, with a 17 jewels and Incabloc shock protection. Keeping time to +7 seconds a day with an amplitude of 250 degrees and a beat error of 0.9m/s.

Dial:
An original dial with no wear to the writing. There is a slight hazing of the matte black gloss finish in one area. Overall it is in good condition with beautiful, raised gold arrow hour markers.
 
Hands:
The hands are original and have minimal signs of wear or corrosion. The original lume remains intact.
 
Glass:
The crystal is in very good condition with no noticeable scratching.
 
Crown:
The crown is original and is signed Benrus. It has a very clean coin edge and is in good condition.
 
Case:
The case is 10k rolled gold plated which provides a thicker finish than standard plated gold. it is in good condition for the age, with multiple light surface scratches but no deep scratches or nicks on the top. The underside of the lugs and the case back there are some areas of wear to the rolled plating, as seen in the images.
 
Caseback:
The case back It is made of stainless steel and is in good condition with only light surface scratches.
 
Strap:
A new 16mm black genuine leather strap.
 
Movement:
A recently serviced movement, with a 17 jewels and Incabloc shock protection. Keeping time to +7 seconds a day with an amplitude of 250 degrees and a beat error of 0.9m/s.
