For sale we have a beautiful 1958 Lord Elgin model 7514. It has a rare and well-designed 10k solid gold case manufactured by Schwab & Wuischpard. To the rear is a presentation engraving for anniversary of work at the Ford Motor Co, with Henry Ford II engraved signature. The case was manufactured with no expenses spared. It is a thick and well-crafted case with complicated lines. It has a deep gold tone to it with a polished finish. It measures 22mm by 30mm, with a lug-to-lug length of 37mm. It wears well on a gents wrist, particularly with a suitable bracelet, such as the one it is on.

The dial has a silver satin finish and has a classic Mid Century Modern design. It has Arabic numerals in a stylised font, alternating with arrow markers. It has a simple sub-second dial and Lord Elgin signing. The hands are of facetted dauphine style and were very popular during the era.

The engraving is a presentation for 35 years of service. It is very well executed, with a clear font. The Henry Ford II signing is in the style of his signature which is an excellent touch. It states “Presented by Ford Motor Co. To Andrew W. Stewart on his 35th Anniversary 1923-1958 – Henry Ford II”.

Inside the watch continues to impress. The movement is of exceptional quality. The movement is an Elgin calibre 730. It is the top grade of this calibre with a jewel count of 23, being marked 6 adjustments. It has a highly unusual DuraBalance regulation system. It is keeping time to within +20 seconds a day.

The watch is presented on a period / potentially original Spiedal expanding 10k gold filled bracelet.

Lord Elgin watches are of an excellent quality and are collectable. 10k solid gold cased Elgin watches are uncommon. With Ford presentation engravings they are even more uncommon. They are particularly popular due to the association with Americas largest motor vehicle company. The Henry Ford II signature in his hand writing is particularly pleasing.
