Here we have a clean and classic Dogma rose gold plated dress watch from the 1960s.
It has an eye-catching silver sunburst dial, with a brushed finish. The applied hour markers are of an interesting design, with alternating Arabic numerals and vertical batons with black striped centre. The Dogma name is applied in a rose gold tone, with the Prima name signed below. It has a simple but stylish cross hair sub-second track at 6 O’clock. The index style hands are slim and elegant in a rose gold tone.
The case is well proportioned at 34mm, with a slim circular design. The rose gold tone is bright, warm and even, with no signs of wear. The tapered lugs are long and add to the look of the case and the presence of the watch, with a total lug-to-lug measurement of 42.5mm. To the right is the Dogma signed crown. To the rear is the stainless-steel snap on case back, which has a brushed finish and the Dogma logo engraved.
Inside is the AS 1690-92 17 jewel manual wind movement. It is keeping time to within +60 seconds a day.
We love this watch because of its clean sunburst dial, the stylised alternating hour markers and the warm tone of the rose gold case.
Dogma:
Dogma was a brand of watches produced between 1860-1970 by Clemence Freres & Cie (later A. Dorsaz & Cie), in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland.
They provided DH Service watches for the Wehrmacht and the Luftwaffe during WW2.
Post WW2, in 1949 the company was re-registered and transferred to Arthus Dorsaz & Co. Dogma were then sold all over Western Europe with increased production.
The brand continued to operate in the 60s and 70s, before the rights were acquired by Aubry Freres SA in 1972. They were then wound down, a victim of the Quartz crisis.
The brand can be summarised as offering fairly priced, decent quality watches, that had stylish and current design cues.
