Here we have a 1969 Bueche Girod 18ct gold gents tank watch with hob nail finishing to the case and dial. It is the reference YG.10711.1. The gold tone dial has black Roman numerals and painted hands, contrasting the hob nail finish. It has the flat top of the case with stepped edges to the lugs. The flat sides have a brushed finish with the ‘BG’ signed crown to the right. The case has Swiss and British import hallmarking. Inside is the manual wind Bueche Girod calibre 68 movement, which is a Peseux 7001. It is keeping accurate time.
The dial has a hobnail finish which matches the finish to the top of the case. It is a gold tone, which is luxurious. The roman numerals are painted on to the dial in a black paint, as is the Bueche Girod logo. The dial is an excellent piece of design which has such an uncommon texture. It is a classic dress watch with only an hour and minute hand. They are of stick style and are also black painted which provides a contrast against the gold tone dial.
The case is neatly proportioned as a dress watch, measuring 26mm x 26mm. It has a slim and comfortable depth at just over 6mm deep. With the total lug to lug length being 36mm, this adds to the presence on the wrist. The hob nail finishing, combined with the bevel to the lugs create an eye-catching canvas which further advances the wrist presence.
The level of quality exhibited in the design and finishing of the case is exceptional. The hobnail finish to the top of case is complex and provides texture and intrigue to a classic tank design. The polished band to the top and bottom of the dial provide contrast and help to frame it. The sides of the case are flat, with the brushed finish, with the ‘BG’ signed crown to the right-hand side. The rear has a brushed finish to the face, with the polished surround. It has the reference YG.10711.1 with the serial number below.
Inside the case is signed with the ‘BG’ mark, with Swiss hallmarking with the 18k stamp and head of Helvetia. It also has British import marks from London assay office, dating it to 1969. It has the Poincon De Maître no.5 for George Croisier who produced pioneering Steel cases for Patek Philippe chronographs.
The watch is powered by the manually wound Bueche Girod calibre 68, which is a Pesuex 7001 base calibre. It has a jewel count of 17 and a higher beat rate of 21,600 BPH. It is a reliable and high-grade movement which is in good condition, keeping time to within -5 seconds a day.
A standout gold dress piece, with a high level of finishing. This is a beautiful textured variation of a tank watch.
