For sale we have a good, lightly worn example of a mid 1970s Technos Technabird TV style wristwatch. The 36.5mm square Stainless-Steel case is well proportioned, with a large TV shaped bezel that has excellent brushed sunburst finishing. The silver horizontally grained dial is eye-catching with its polished applied hour markers and date window, showcasing a clean design. The crown is offset at 4 O’clock on the case and is recessed to sit neatly. The case is of a monocoque design, with split stem providing good waterproof design. Inside is an ETA 2630 automatic movement, keeping excellent time. The watch comes on its rare, original Technos Stainless Steel bracelet which finishes the watch off perfectly. It is eye-catching with its beautiful use of finishing and is the encapsulation of Retro design. A little-known model, but with its quality and charming design, its sure to become more sought after.

Technos were registered in 1924 in Switzerland near the Jura mountains, gaining popularity after World War II. In 1970 the brand was sold to the General Watch Co. It employed 450 people at this peak and exported watches worldwide and in particular to Japan & Brazil. With the quartz crisis underway, Technos lost market share and by 1976 only the Japanese market was still providing orders.

The Steel TV case is a great size, with the impressive bezel, which has the original brushed sunburst finish. This is a lovely finish which shimmers in the light. It has a polished bevel and side of the bezel, before giving way to the continuation of brushed finishing on the side. The bezel shrouds the lugs, which are hidden to the rear, whilst the crown is set a 4 O’clock and is inset into the case. Both aspects make this a very clean case with the bezel and its finishing taking centre stage.

This is the perfect frame to the TV shaped dial, which is protected by the original shaped acrylic crystal. The silver dial has a horizontal graine finish that balances the front of the watch. It is simple and clean with applied stepped hour markers. It has the applied Technos logo with signing and the Technabird name and applied star symbol. The date window is balanced at 3 O’clock against the larger 9 O’clock marker. The day window is white, whilst the date is black. The original lume plots are set at the base of the hour markers.

The hands are very complex in terms of their finishing. They have luminous in-fill, with polished outer sections and a grained finish to the centre.

The case back is Stainless Steel and is solid. It has the original linear brushed sides, with a circular brushed finish to the central face. There is a clean Technos monogram to the back with the reference and serial engraving clearly engraved.

The watch is on its original Technos Steel bracelet with signed clasp. It has the original brushed, facetted finish which reflects the light beautifully. Comparing this example to all others without this bracelet, this elevates the watch to a different level. The way in which the links reflect the light as the wrist turns is exceptional.

The movement is an ETA 2630. It is an automatic movement, with sweep second hand day date display, with quickset date. It functions as it should and has a daily variation of -6 seconds a day with an amplitude of 265 degrees.
