For sale we have a 1980s Baume & Mercier Quartz watch with date, formed of 18ct gold and Stainless Steel. It is a well-made and designed watch, with the reference 5206.018. It has an ETA 956 112 movement with date function and central second hand. 
 
It is of particular interest to persons interested in Dominica as a country, or its history, as well as female role models and world leaders. It has the provenance that it was owned by Eugenia Charles, the Prime Minister of Dominica from 1980-1995. It was sold by her step-grandfathers sister. She never married, nor had children.
 
She was the first female lawyer in Dominica and was the first and only female prime minister in Dominica. She was the second female prime minister in the Caribbean. She was the first female in the Americas to be elected in her own right as head as government. She was also the worlds 4th longest serving female Prime Minister and the longest continuous serving woman Prime Minister.
 
The watch is well proportioned for a lady’s watch, measuring 25mm x 25mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 30mm. It has a Stainless-Steel circular main body with polished finish and unique notched central sections. The bezel is grained with a linear finish in 18ct gold with four notched sections. These blend with the notches of the sides of the case to create the illusion of an octagonal case shape. To the right of the case is the gold crown with Baume logo and notched design. This is an interesting and well-designed case with quality. To the rear is a Stainless screwback with brushed face and coin edge exterior. It is signed Baume & Mercier Geneve Quartz, Acier Inox, with the reference 5206.018 and the serial number 1373581.
 
The watch is presented on its original Stainless-Steel bracelet which has a signed fold over clasp. It is long and will fit any lady’s wrist.
 
The dial is original and has a matte white base tone with gold tone applied hour batons. They have original Tritium lume pips to the base. Inside there are black tone Roman Numerals with applied Baume logo at 12 O’clock. The date window is nicely balanced at 3 O’clock. It is framed with a black outline. The dial is signed Baume & Mercier Geneve Quartz, with T Swiss T to the base.
 
The hands are original, of sword style with original tritium lume in-fill. It has aged to a deep yellow tone. 
 
The movement is an ETA 956 112. This is a 7-jewel quartz movement. It has hours, minutes and central second with quickset date. It is keeping good time for its age, losing 5 seconds per month. It has had a new battery fitted.

Dial: 
The dial is original and is in good condition for the age. It has a matte white base tone with gold tone applied hour batons. These have some corrosion associated with age. They also have original Tritium lume pips to the base. 
 
Hands: 
The hands are original and in good condition. They are of sword style with original tritium lume in-fill. It has aged to a deep yellow tone. The hands are a gold tone with polished finish and slight corrosion associated with ageing. 
 
Glass: 
The mineral crystal is original with no scratching.
 
Crown:
The gold crown is original with Baume logo. It has slight scratching but is in good condition, functioning as it should.
 
Bezel:
The bezel is 18ct gold and is circular with a grained finish. It has four notches to its design. It has light surface scratching associated with light wear.
 
Case:
The case is circular with notched central sections to the sides and a polished finish. The polished finish has light surface scratching associated with ageing.  
 
Caseback:
The screwback is Stainless Steel, with brushed face and coin edge exterior. The coin edge exterior has scratching associated with poor opening attempts. The brushed finish is good with only light surface scratching. The engraving is good and clear.
 
Strap: 
The watch is its original Baume & Mercier integrated bracelet. It is very long and will fit over a 7” wrist diameter. It needs links removed for most ladies to wear. It has a brushed finish and surface scratching associated with age. It has signed fold over clasp.
 
Movement: 
The movement is an ETA 956 112. This is a 7-jewel quartz movement. It has hours, minutes and central second with quickset date.
 
It is keeping good time for its age, losing 5 seconds per month. It has had a new battery fitted.
