Here we have an outstanding early 1980s Cyma Navystar Quartz ‘King Midas’ style watch, with a seamless integrated bracelet design. It is a thin watch, with the ETA calibre 966.111 movement inside. It has a full Stainless-Steel case and bracelet, with brushed finishing. It has a lacquered black dial, with silver signing and roman numerals to 12 and 6. The dial is protected by the original sapphire crystal, with polished bezel surrounding it. It has the reference 114.100.56 marked inside, with the case produced by Kessi Freres of Biele.
The black dial is clean and crisp with its smooth black tone and lacquered finish. It has a simple rectangular track with roman numerals to 12 and 6. The Cyma logo sits below 12, with the brighter CYMA signing. Above 6 O’clock it is signed quartz, with the Navystar logo in italics. At 3 O’clock is the facetted date window with the silver surround, which leads to the white dial wheel with black numerals.
The case closely follows the styling of the Rolex King Midas, with the rectangular design and evenly pointed sides. It measures 27.25mm wide, with a length of 33.5mm. It has a slim depth of 5.25mm. The Cyma signed crown recesses neatly to the side, creating a seamless look. The main body has a notched finish running across it. There is a polished finish to the bezel, which holds the sapphire crystal. It removes from the front and bracelet with the screws to the rear. This allows the centre section to drop out with the movement, dial and crystal sat within the case back. This removes to allow access to the movement. The front is firmly secured to the movement section, protecting the dial. Inside, the case is signed with the reference 114.100.56, with the KB marking for Kessi Freres.
The central section flows perfectly into the articulated integrated bracelet. The styling also flows into the bracelet with the sections between the bracelet matching the notches. The links are removable, with spring bars to the centre. The bracelet has all of the links, which allow it to fit up to an 8” wrist circumference. It clips into place with a hidden lever below to release the bracelet. This integrated style continues, with the Cyma logo rounding it off the underside of the wrist.
Inside is the ETA 966.111 movement, which allow the ultra-thin profile of the case with its slim depth. It is the original calibre, with the Cyma signing. It has a jewel count of 7, with hours, minutes, central seconds and quickset date function. The movement is in good condition and has had a new battery fitted. It is keeping accurate time and the date changes as it should.
This is an outstanding watch in terms of design and quality. It is a light and comfortable on the wrist with the smooth manner in which the links articulate and the slim depth.
