Here we an uncommon example of a 1990s Dunhill Millennium Triple date moonphase chronograph, with the Zenith El Primero calibre 410 movement inside.
It has the two-tone case with the polished stainless-steel and the polished gold-plated accents of the bezel, crown and T-bar lugs. It is a well sized watch with a case width of 40mm. It has the midnight dial with the gold tone roman numerals, signing and polished finish surrounding the sub-dials. The Tachymetre scale is around the outside of the dial. The gold tone polished hands are elegant. It has the offset date function between 4-5 O’clock. It comes on a new genuine leather strap, which is non-Dunhill. It is powered by the Zenith calibre 410 movement which has the Dunhill signing. It’s an excellent quality movement which is keeping time to within chronometer standards, having been recently serviced.
If you want luxury complication at a more attainable price, with the calibre having 390 separate components, this is the watch for you.
We think now is a good time to be adding such an unusual watch to your collection. From a value proposition they offer a lot of watch for the money when you consider the styling, build quality and the Hi-beat El Primero movement inside. Whilst The Ebel 1911 chronograph is the most well-known watch to use the El Primero calibre (other than Zeniths themselves), the Dunhill Millennium represents a standout piece of design from the luxury gentlemen’s outfitters. The model was aimed at the Asian market, with Japan being the most prominent market for the model.
This is the only blue dial example we have seen in many years of tracking sales of the reference.
The dial is clean and luxurious. The Tachymetre insert adds a depth to the dial, sitting around the outside and resting against the sapphire crystal. The dial is a midnight blue, with the gold tone roman numerals. The sub-dials are inset into the dial with the subtle concentric circles radiating from the centre. They are framed by the gold polished finish. This is a neat touch, which creates a harmony between the use of the two-tones. The dial is signed with the ‘Dunhill’ name below 12 O’clock. The date window is offset between 4 and 5 O’clock and blends into the dial well. It has a rich gold speckled tone. The hands are simple and elegant in a polished gold tone with matching hands on the sub-dials.
The case is large, with significant presence measuring 40mm, with a total width including crown and pushers of 43mm. It has a good length of 48mm, with a lug width of 22mm to match. The case design is eye-catching with the central lug point and T-bar design. It is a saucer shape which is similar to that of Cartier’s design during the 1980s and 90s. It has the polished steel finish with the contrast with the gold tone bezel and crown.
The case back is held into place with 6 polished screws and has the sapphire crystal exhibition. It has the satin brushed finish with the engraved Dunhill signing and features infilled with the black tone.
If the overall design isn’t standout enough, the movement powering this watch is one of the finest automatic chronograph movements ever produced, the Zenith El Primero calibre 410. It is an exceptionally well-made movement with 390 separate components. It has a jewel count of 31 and a hi-beat frequency of 36,000 BPH making the 60 second hand sweep smoothly around the dial. On the three sub-dials it has the constant seconds, 30 minute counter and 12 hour counter. It also has the quickset date function. It also displays the day, month and moonphase. It is in very good condition having been recently serviced. It is keeping time to within 3 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 300 degrees and a beat error of 0.1m/s.
