Here we have an early 2000s Tudor Prince Date Hydronaut, reference 89193P. It has the uncommon Carbon Fibre dial. It is water resistant to 200m with the case measuring 41mm with the screw down crown and case back. It is the two-tone 18ct gold and Steel variation, with gold crown and bezel. It has the Stainless-Steel bracelet, with Tudor logo clasp with fold over locking. The centre links to the bracelet are a heavy gold plate and are flanked by two bands of mirror polished links. Inside is the Tudor signed ETA 2824-2 automatic movement, which is keeping accurate time. The watch come with its hang tag and signed paperwork. The serial number is 825XXX.

It is a model that is not very well known in the UK, due to it being from the period in which Montres Tudor SA, removed themselves from the US and UK market.

The dial is a standout feature on the watch. It is formed of Carbon Fibre and the chequered finish with the alternating weave. The finish catches the light and provides a unique and playful dial texture. The gold tone baton hour markers are well sized, with white tone luminous centre flanked by gold bands. The dial is balanced with the larger batons at 6 and 9, with the triangular marker at 12 and the date window at 3 O’clock. There is a simple large dash minute/second track around the exterior, with the Swiss Made signing to the base. The centre is signed below 12 with the Tudor shield logo and the ‘Prince Date’ text. Above 6 O’clock it is signed ‘200m = 660ft’ with the Hydronaut model name below. The date window is a champagne/gold tone, which ties in with the gold accents.

The hands are of a clear and unique design with the arrow end to the hour marker and the lozenge style minute hand. The hands are a gold tone, with the luminous in-fill. The tips are separated from the main body with a skeletonised section. The central second hand is clean with the lumed tear drop and the droplet counterbalance.

The dial and hands are protected by the original sapphire crystal which has the cyclops date magnifier at 3 O’clock.

The bezel is another excellent and unique feature of the watch. It has a smooth but secure click, with the bezel being integrated within the case with the lugs providing protection to it and creating a seamless profile. The polished notched exterior has grooves in-between. The insert is formed of 18ct yellow gold, which has developed a lightly tarnished patination from use. It is a 60-minute countdown bezel, with the lume pip set at 60 minutes.

The case measures 41mm strict width, with the crown taking the total width up to 45.25mm. It has a length of 39mm, with a total lug-to-lug length of 47mm. It is stainless steel with the polished finish to the top and the brushed finish to the sides. There is a notched crown guard to the right, which protects the gold screw-down crown. The lugs have a curved edge which fits with the flow of the case. Between the lugs at 12 O’clock the case is signed with the reference 89193P, with the serial number and Stainless Steel at 6 O’clock.

It has the classic Oyster design screwback with the coin edge finish. It has a circular brushed finish to the outside, with the linear brushing to the face. The Tudor signing is clear and defined. Inside it is signed with the Tudor name and the reference 8100. The attention to detail is excellent with a brushed sunburst finish to the inside.

The watch is powered by the Tudor branded ETA 2824-2. It is an automatic, with a jewel count of 25 and a high beat rate of 28,800 BPH. It benefits from hacking seconds, allowing for accurate setting. It is a well finished movement with perlage to the bridges and the Tudor rotor finishing. It is in excellent condition, keeping time to within +6 seconds a day.

The watch comes on its original two-tone Tudor bracelet, reference 93553. It has a 5 link design, with two brushed outer links, two polished bands of steel links, with gold plated polished centre links. It has a deployment clasp with fold over lock, with the Tudor shield logo. It has 13 links in total, fitting up to a 7.75” wrist. The clasp has been polished, with slight loss of definition to the Tudor logo.

The watch comes with its original hang tag and paperwork. It was originally purchased from the Tangshan Department Store Group Co. Ltd., Tangsham, China.

This is an uncommon reference, particularly rare in two-tone with the Carbon Fibre dial. It represents a great opportunity to pick one up in the UK market.

Tudor have always offered excellent quality at a low price point, but this is a standout option for an affordable two-tone diver’s watch. It offers significant value for money with its unique design and high-quality construction with 18ct elements and Carbon Fibre dial.
